FAQ

What age is Solve To Play for?

For kids in primary school. Addition and subtraction up to 10 or 20 suit first graders, times tables and division fit ages 7 to 10. You set the numbers for each task type, so the tasks can grow with your kid.

How is it different from Apple’s Screen Time limits?

Screen Time on its own sets fixed limits. Solve To Play uses Screen Time to lock the apps you pick and lets your kid earn time by solving math tasks, up to the daily limit you set.

Isn’t screen time as a reward a bad idea?

Solving tasks never adds time beyond the limit you set: you decide how long the apps stay open and how often per day. The tasks only decide when the playtime starts. Your kid does the math first, and you no longer have to keep saying no. Stars never buy playtime, and some kids keep solving extra rounds for stars after their apps are already open. Can my kid get around the lock?

iOS does the blocking, not the app, and the settings are behind your parent PIN. On a device with a child Apple Account in your Family Sharing group, your kid can’t delete Solve To Play without your approval. On a device set up with its passcode, your kid could delete it.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. Solve To Play runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 18 or later.

Do I need Family Sharing?

Recommended, not required. On your kid’s device, signed in with a child Apple Account in your Family Sharing group, you confirm once with your own Apple Account, and your kid can’t delete the app without you. On a device without a child account, such as your own iPhone or iPad that your kid uses too (“Shared with my kid” in the setup), you set it up with the device passcode instead. Your kid could then delete the app.

What are the stars for?

Your kid earns a star for every solved task and spends them in the shop on hats, glasses, toys and backgrounds for their character. Stars never buy playtime, and you can’t buy stars with money.

Can my kid keep solving after the apps are unlocked?

Yes. Extra rounds earn stars, not playtime. In the parent settings you can turn them off or set how many your kid can do per day.

Does the app collect data about my kid?

No. There is no account, no ads and no tracking, and settings and progress stay on the device. Anonymous crash reports and usage statistics can be turned off in the parent settings. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
